Medica, one of MSP’s largest health care provider giants, represents a group of companies held by a nonprofit, tax exempt holding company called Medica Holding Company. Its family of businesses that has received the highest accreditation status, Excellent, from the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA®) for its Minnesota Medicaid HMO plans and commercial health plans in Minnesota and North Dakota. Medica also has achieved Quality Plus Distinction for Physician and Hospital Quality from the NCQA. The organization employs around 1,200 people and is headquartered from its Minnetonka offices.
Blue Cross Blue Shield
Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota is a taxable, nonprofit organization with a mission to make a healthy difference in people’s lives. Chartered in 1933 as Minnesota’s first health plan, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota has promoted wider, economical and timely availability of health services for the people of Minnesota for 80+ years. Roughly one in three Minnesotans have a health plan with the company, and Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota has received numerous awards recognizing the organization as a top employer and best place to work.
Allina Health is a group of 12 hospitals, 90+ clinics, 52 rehabilitation locations, 15 retail pharmacies, and two ambulatory care centers with a headequarters in Minneapolis. In addition to providing a wide range of general care services, Allina Health offers specialty medical services including hospice care, oxygen and home medical equipment, and emergency medical transportation. In 2018, Allina Health staffed 1,864 beds, was home to 15,222 births, and ran more than 8 million lab tests.
Mayo Clinic is consistently the #1 ranked care system in the U.S. and is based out of nearby Rochester, MN with clinics throughout MN, WI, and IA in addition to major campuses in AZ and FL. More than 4,500 physicians and scientists are employed throughout the clinic, with an additional 58,000+ in administrative and allied health staff. It also operates one of the top 10 medical schools and has a robust, world-leading research program. Serving more than a million people from around the world each year, Mayo Clinic is the center of Destination Medical Center, a regional and Minnesota state funded economic initiative to make the region the premiere world destination for care.
Park Dental is a dental group practice with dozens of practice locations throughout MSP and Western Wisconsin. They provide a range of services, including preventative dentistry, restorative services, cosmetic procedures, and advanced services such as dental implants and sleep apnea treatment. They were named a Top Workplace by the Star Tribune and employ more than 130 registered and accredited dental professionals.
Be The Match
For the thousands of people diagnosed every year with life-threatening blood cancers like leukemia and lymphoma, a cure exists. Over the past 30 years Be The Match®, operated by the National Marrow Donor Program® (NMDP), has managed the largest and most diverse marrow registry in the world. To date, Be The Match has facilitated more than 92,000 blood stem cell transplants, and nearly 6,200 transplants a year to give patients hope for a future. As the recognized leader in unrelated marrow transplantation, Be The Match continues to develop services and interactive technologies used by transplant experts around the world to reach more patients, also leading in developing new cellular therapies. Be The Match opened their new North Loop Minneapolis headquarters in 2016 across the street from Target Field and a few short steps off the Green Line serving the metro’s roughly 1,000 local employees of the organizaiton.
