New “MSP in Color” blog series explores and celebrates the diverse experiences of Minneapolis-Saint Paul residents

Belonging is a sense that every dimension of your identity is not only welcome, but celebrated by the people and spaces around you. The Greater Minneapolis-Saint Paul region (MSP) is home to talented and courageous people of all backgrounds and identities – people who are passionate about things that make this place great, while also driven to make it a better and more equitable home for all. A place of true belonging.

MSP in Color is a visual/narrative blog series that celebrates the many dimensions of life, work and community across MSP by sharing real stories about life here from the people who tell it best – its residents.

Since the killing of George Floyd, our region emerged as the epicenter of a national reckoning with systemic racial injustices rooted in American life. A lot of work is taking place across the region to bring about systemic changes that produce racial equity for MSP residents.

The greatest asset that MSP has – is its people. MSP in Color tells the story about life in the region that goes beyond the headlines in the voices of residents from all backgrounds. These students, parents, neighbors, and leaders speak about their struggles and triumphs, the imperfect world they find, and their vision for a better future. Some are recent transplants to MSP, others have lived in the region for years, and some were born and raised here. Through their individual stories, the participants offer a nuanced perspective of what this place is really about, uplift a sense of community, and offer personal tips, ideas, and resources to those trying to make MSP a home.

These series will be updated every month to capture the stories of MSP residents of all races, genders, religions, sexual orientations, abilities, and positions on the career ladder, weaving a complex tapestry of all experiences available in the region. We invite you to spend time reading these stories, and check back for newcomers to MSP in Color!
