This fall will bring more than a change in season
October is always a great time to be in MSP. Personally, it’s my favorite month to be outdoors, whether out exploring or attending major events like the Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon or University of Minnesota Homecoming.
The Minnesota Lynx are typically busy clinching a title, and by October I’ve foolishly talked myself into a Vikings Super Bowl run by roughly the middle of the month.
Last year, October was a busy month for our team at Make It. MSP. as we planned and executed a major summit to connect our partners and teams. This year we are taking a different approach.
With incredible events happening throughout the region, our Make It. MSP. teams are working to shine a spotlight. Whether flying in jobseekers to experience Twin Cities Startup Week or welcoming visitors at professional conferences, our teams will be busy all month long.
Here are just some of the reasons why you won’t want to miss October in MSP.
Twin Cities Startup Week 2018
Every year, more than 10,000 people gather at 100+ events and meetups throughout the region to celebrate and thank the entrepreneurs, innovators, makers, artists, and others working to ignite growth across the region and state of Minnesota. Signature events include the MN Cup finals, BETA Showcase, Techstars Demo Days, Bunker Labs Muster, Minnedemo, and much more across a variety of tracks and venues. And our team partners to fly in jobseekers for the week.
Inaugural events will connect even more innovators from around the world
While Twin Cities Startup Week (TCSW) has ignited an incredible amount of activity already, even more events will be running in parallel to all the action at TCSW during the same weeklong stretch. These new additions feature some of the world’s leaders in technology, food & agriculture, health care, and more. Our team is working in partnership with organizers at these events to showcase our community.

Leading professional associations will visit for national conferences
Our region is one of the country’s most concentrated markets for professionals. As a result, MSP chapters of national and global professional organizations often lead the pack. During October, two of the most dynamic professional organizations in the country will host their national events here, bringing thousands of visitors to learn and connect with each other while getting to know a bit about our hometown. Our team is ready to welcome and connect these guests.

Society of Women Engineers
WE18 is coming to MSP on October 18-20. Thousands of engineers and students from throughout the country will gather to explore the conference’s theme: “Let’s Break Boundaries.” The Make It. MSP. team will be on site to share the best of our region.

Reaching Out MBA
The national Reaching Out organization works to educate, inspire, and connect the LGBTQ business community. Its ROMBA conference connects roughly 2,000 students each year from MBA programs around the country. This year’s “Driving Momentum” conference brings the group to Minneapolis on October 4-6.
There’s plenty happening throughout our communities
Of course, there is plenty more happening during October. We are excited about other major events and fairs for local professionals.
Here are a few you might want to put on your calendar. Know of others? Share them using #makeitmsp and we will add on to the post.
