I like to ambiance and food at the T-Box in Ham Lake, MN. It’s a small spot but, very rich in coziness. The woodwork is warm and inviting. Their food is prepared by a chef and has the menu has the feel of small steakhouse or upscale foodie bar. The 1029 bar in Northeast, Minneapolis is one of those spots that makes every Minnesotan proud. A fun cop bar that has the Smack Shack serving lobster everything and killer burgers. Yeah… They’ve been featured and Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives but whenever I go there’s always a spot. So it hasn’t reached the Matt’s Bar status yet but as soon as more folks try that lobster mac & cheese the line will linger long. Market Bar-B-Que It’s one of those places that remind you of another era. It’s nostalgic and charming and everything you want it to be. Sure, about every single famous person from 1940-1990 have been there but when I talk to folks about BBQ many say, “I’ve never been.” Their ribs are dry rub and smoked to perfection. Tight to the bone and amateurs can add sauce at the table. MKT BBQ’s smoked chicken makes you think twice about humanity itself. By far the best BBQ north of Nashville. Louis Restaurante (Top of Cossettas) Fine Italian dinner in the legendary Cossettas. If you like “another notch” than venture upstairs and find a St. Paul foodie souvenir that will have your taste buds running around the clock. Pastas, steaks, seafood and they have a hidden menu and the burger on it is amazing!

So many great restaurants here… hidden or not. A few people might not know: On’s Thai Kitchen on University; Porchetteria (a window with pork sandwiches served out of it) at Terzo Wine Bar; Cave Vin. While New Scenic Cafe on the North Shore isn’t a secret, I love to praise it. Favorite road trip.

If you’re on or near the West Bank of the U of M Campus, check out Afro Deli. I’m a big fan of their Veggie Fantastic. In addition to the great food at an awesome price, the people and vibe are the reasons why I’m a loyal customer. The line is usually out the door but the moment you step inside, there’s up-beat music playing and a smiling face to greet you. I would also recommend their Somali Tea – delicious!
