I live on Minnehaha Creek

I live on Minnehaha Creek and am across the street from bike and walking paths that wind all around the lakes, along the Mississippi, through downtown and beyond. It goes for about 50 miles. It makes me feel like I’m connected to endless parkland, and, in a way, I am.

I love that I can cross-country ski from our door during the winter. It’s so wonderful not to have to get in a car, but just jump on the lake and be able to go for miles and miles. That’s the best, but I also love that we can bike, run, paddleboard, rollerblade, and canoe all without getting a car, and on paths/in beautiful green space. And, there’s a super awesome bar and kick-ass independent bookstore half a block away.

The convenience. As a non-native, I feel that everything about the transition to the Midwest, and Minneapolis specifically, has been a little bit easier since I found my neighborhood. I love that I’m just a 3 min walk from the river where I can pop down and relax with some outstandingly, peaceful green space, and at the same time, just a 10 minute walk from the Twins and Timberwolves stadiums. It’s lively, yet safe. Full of young people, yet not loud. Close to seemingly everything, yet enough green and quiet space to connect with nature.
