Minneapolis has a great bus and light rail system

I’ve lived in Minnesota my whole life, but I’ve never loved driving in the snow. Minneapolis has a great bus and light rail system, which allows me to get from Downtown Minneapolis (where I reside) to Bloomington (where I work). I don’t have to scrape ice or snow off my car or wait for it to heat up. I can also walk through the skyways to get from my loft to the light rail station, which is a huge benefit when the cold hits. The cost for a Metro Pass is reasonable and well worth it to spend my 30 minute commute time catching up on social media, reading a book, or prepping for work that morning (and avoiding any less than desirable driving weather).

I feel very lucky to live in an area with a robust public transportation system that’s continually growing. I take an express bus from my suburb to downtown Minneapolis every day. It’s quick, on time and I love not having to drive on snowy days!
Most days I bike

It’s a multi-modal mix! Most days, I bike, and walk the last half-mile down Nicollet Mall after dropping my daughter off at daycare. Some days, my husband or I will run in (our daycare is at the YMCA, so we shower there) and the other will drive our daughter. We also take the bus when the weather isn’t nice, and when it is nice we take our time and walk in! I love seeing the dawn over downtown from the hill above the Walker Art Museum when we walk.
I ride the Green Line train between the Midway neighborhood in Saint Paul

I ride the Green Line train between the Midway neighborhood in Saint Paul and downtown Minneapolis. My train stop is eight blocks from my house, which is totally walkable no matter the weather. I specifically bought my house in this area because of the proximity to the light rail.

“Minneapolis-St. Paul is in the midst of a transit boom, with three relatively new rail lines recently completed, and two more anticipated by 2020—keeping the metro at the cutting edge of urban transportation options.” – MN.gov
