Inclusive spaces, whether it be at work or in my community, allow me to bring my authentic and true self to all that I do – without fear of others judging me on any of my multiple facets of diversity.

It’s more than just race, culture, ethnicity, gender, age – while that’s a big part of inclusivity, I think a place where I can be me, make jokes or share serious insights about being me/from my culture without freaking my non-asian, non-recent-immigrant, non-POCI, colleagues and friends out, is what feels the most inclusive. So yeah, the typical markers of diversity, and then also people who have varied backgrounds, come from different places, have experiences being the other, and are interested in learning instead of judging.

An inclusive community is one in which everyone’s experiences and ideas are valued – not just in words, but in actions. It’s also one that asks difficult questions about who isn’t present due to historical erasures, and what can be done about it.
