I have found most of the culturally specific spaces via local publications like Insight News or Spokesman Recorder (Black/African American), CLUES or La Voz Latina (Latino/a), Asian American Press, The Circle (American Indian), Lavender (LGBTQ)
I seem to stumble on places that align with my cultural identity in an almost serendipitous way.

I seem to stumble on places that align with my cultural identity in an almost serendipitous way. Just last month I was meeting friends at a restaurant and it just so happened to be directly across from my new favorite Asian market – one that has the exact bakery items I have been hunting for almost a year!
Hmong International Marketplace is as close to being in South East Asia as you can get.

Hmong International Marketplace is my favorite “I’m not in Minnesota anymore” place – it’s as close to being in South East Asia as you can get. Hmong vendors sell crafts, veggies, herbs, clothing, household goods, holiday necessities – for themselves, not for tourists. You run into Hmong grandmas in their embroidered dress and find veggies you’ve never seen.
